An employee mentioned, "In my opinion this Penn National Gaming takes advantage of it's guests and it's employee's and doesn't care about anything other than the bottom line. Management at every level are a nightmare and is full of big ego's that know nothing about what they are actually doing. Promotion at PNGaming is based entirely on sucking up to your superiors and has nothing to do with job performance or merit."

Stewarding (Former Employee) says"They lie to you right at the door. You will be sexually harassed and will go to HR, the union. By the time everything seem to be handled. Your tried of the everything and leave but they will not take you back but will keep the person who has done all of this on camera. If your into that type of stuff this is the place to beThank you for taking the time to write this review. What you describe regarding a claim of sexual harassment, however, is not representative of our company culture. We are committed to maintaining a work environment where everyone feels welcome and supported. The company takes reports of harassment very seriously, and conducts prompt and thorough investigations into all reported allegations. I would appreciate the opportunity to discuss this further. You can reach me directly at firstname.lastname@example.org."
Director (Former Employee) says"If you are hourly...you might get your 40 hours but half the time the management is trying to figure out how to send you home so you dont get your 40 hours unless you use your PTO to fill in the gaps. No work life balance if you salary. You will work 60 hours a week. On avg 55 hours. Using PTO for salary employees is frowned upon. Too many Cons to list but it's a job."
Beverage Server (Former Employee) says"This place is the epitome of what should be used in an HR training video as to what SHOULD NOT be allowed in the workplace. If that’s not bad enough, when attempting to find resolution with the Human Resources department we found ourselves mocked and laughed at. I could understand if myself and the other party involved were lackluster employees, but that’s the furthest from the truth. Directors in other departments also pick/tease employees outside of their own departments. If you’re looking for employment that you leave daily feeling appreciated, valued and as if you are a human being- this isn’t the place for you.Free lunches, paid benefits, awesome coworkersMismanagement, HR bullyingThank you for taking the time to write this review. We are committed to maintaining a work environment where everyone feels welcome and supported. I am sorry you felt there was a lack of professionalism within the leadership teams and HR. We value integrity and believe in creating a great place to work for all our team members. I’d love to talk with you about specific issues you faced as I believe that feedback would be valuable to improving our team. If you would be willing to reach out to me directly I would appreciate it."
Surveillance Agent (Former Employee) says"Pay is horrible with no increase. Very little advancement opportunities. Management acts like they care and then keeps you from advancing. Worked there for 4 years never got any chance to move up.Fun environmentHorrible pay, no advancementThank you for your feedback. I am sorry you felt there there were lack of opportunities to advance within your department. We believe in creating a great place to work for all our team members. I'd love to talk with you about specific issues you faced as I believe that feedback would be valuable to improving our team."
Server/ bus person (Former Employee) says"Worst management I've ever seen in my life. They cared very little about their employees and after working there for years I was still never given the opportunity to advance.free dinner, but even that tasted awful.Over worked, short staffed, management only wanted to hire female, management had no idea of how to run a restaurant."
Security Officer (Former Employee) says"Penn is a bad company to work for. Working for their Jamul Casino was a nightmare! Upper management and management for the security department are lousy! No communication between management and officers. They do not back up their employees. They like to play god. Their attitude behind closed doors towards the tribal members was astounding! The suits wouldn't have those cushy jobs if not for the tribe. They need to replace management. Offer more training to employees and listen to employee concerns. You will not enjoy working at this casino unless they make a serious change. I had one wonderful supervisor out of many but he happened to be the low man on the totem pole. He should have been Director of security. It's all a joke.Good pay. That's all! Many"
Back of House Team Member (Current Employee) says"They promised training for my job, I received none. Management are the only people that get to go to any sort of training and when they return they tell you nothing except stories about partying with other managers. Other departments get to work from home, but my department isn't one of them. Not enough work to do, the day is extremely boring. Management takes holidays off, but other employees are not allowed to. The only thing management is worried about is making sure they receive their next bonus. No chance for advancement here. I kick myself everyday for leaving a good job and coming to work with these liars. The Back Of House is disgusting and filthy. No way you want to eat here!NoneEverything about this place SUCKS!"
Player Services Manager (Former Employee) says"I choose to leave due to negative environment. Those that do the hiring will lie to your face to suck you in and then at every turn the powers that be will try to beat you down to be a mindless drone. If you can think for yourself or have a personality you will not fit in at Penn National. There are clear double standards and favoritism that runs rampant at my former property. Management will do nothing to stop bad behavior because they are bad leaders. Those that are in a management role do not deserve to hold any leadership role. Run as far and fast from these people as possible.NoneEverything"
Table Games Dealer (Current Employee) says"Management is not experienced. Quite honestly, the parent company, Penn National Gaming, has approximately 30 casinos and runs Hollywood Columbus as if it were their first.Uniforms provided (employee pays if ruined or lost), employee union voted in.Six day work week, minimal training, inexperienced management, no regard for employee comfort/convenience, poor communication between departments."
Facilities Maintenance Technician (Former Employee) says"The opinion is mine only. It is up each person to make their own opinion. Gambling is not my thing. Management needs to grow up."
Security Officer (Former Employee) says"Penn National shows little to no respect or support for their employees. Management is a collection of individuals who are looking out solely for their own job security, and they constantly cut services and reduce resources while asking their employees to bear the grunt of the negative feedback from their customers and guests. In a million years, I would never work for Penn National again.Constant complaining from guests, un necessarilly loud music, and annoying machine noise constantly buzzing your ears.No real resources to do your job properly, miserable supervisors, poor compensation, depressing environment"
Table Games Supervisor (Former Employee) says"Penn National Gaming is not concerned with the people who work for them, nor are they concerned with their customers. The only thing that concerns Penn National is their bottom line. Bonuses where taken away for management and told that the only way to earn a bonus was to find ways to save money. Management's solution is to cut back on customer service, and employees. In turn their casinos are dirty and give the appearance of a empty supermarket with nothing to purchase, because all you see are closed tables, and no customers playing on the ones that are open. They do no marketing, no specials or drawings. Customers rarely win at Penn National. Most of their staff is under paid and forced to work hours for free in their "volunteer program", another excellent money saving idea from management. They quick to assess blame for a problem instead of finding solutions. No ProsShort breaks or none, forced volunteer program, rude management, blame culture."
HVAC Mechanic (Former Employee) says"the supervisors think they are technically skilled which they are not.. belittle you and you have the licensure and they do not. you will never succeed there.benefitssupervisors"
COOK (Former Employee) says"Poor Management. Under-educated management. Hard workers are worked harder to cover for the poor workers. Day shift vs Night sift issues are a daily occurrence.Thank you for your feedback.I’d love to talk with you about specific issues you faced as I believe that feedback would be valuable to improving our team. If you would be willing to reach out to me directly I would appreciate it."
EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN (EMT) says"Over-worked and Under-paid. Easily the worst management experience I have ever dealt with. Unable to grasp simple concepts to keep their employees even remotely happy due to uncompromising arrogance.Thank you for your review. We have a passion for doing the right thing and living up to our promises. We have a moral compass that does not waiver and we care deeply about our team members and guests. I am disappointed to see you’ve had a negative experience. I would appreciate the opportunity to discuss this further."
Customer Service Representative (Former Employee) says"No direct information is given to employees regarding pay Every manager has a different perspective of what is going on. Very unprofessional environment. Union takes more than they should vs other unions!Discount on items purchasedPoor management and communicationThank you for taking a moment to share your feedback. Listening to our team members and providing necessary feedback or resolutions is important to us. I am disappointed to see you’ve had a negative experience. I’d like to discuss your situation in more detail as I believe that feedback would be valuable to improving our team."
Manager (Former Employee) says"*Upper management is overpaid and doesn't reward hard word, unless you are friends with them *Yearly pay increase is 2% *Smoking environment with zero ventilation *A documented history of scandals when it comes to their racing operations, yet those executives are still working there *Company claims "its a privilege for someone to visit or work here" *Dishonestly runs through the blood of corporation and every-time you read something on them, they cry about the gambling laws and why it isn't fair to them. *Work hours are insane, but they will cut your shift ASAP when they don't need you. *To qualify for benefits, you practically have to work 38 hours, which changed from 32 when I started. *The top people get lofty bonus payouts, between 10-15% based on cutting and cutting staff, while the people doing the hard-work is lucky to see a $50-$100 yearly bonus, which the company loves to brag about being generous to their employees. *Housekeeping lacks true skills to keep the place clean *Security turnover is horrendous *Morale is beyond repairableNoted aboveNoted above"
EVS Attendant (Former Employee) says"Worked here over a year and did not miss one day. Did not count for anything. Tried to advance and HR stopped me every time. Manager had us counting towels at end of shift. Never had enough towels, mops etc. We ( my coworkers and I) took pride in our job keeping the racino clean. Always short staffed and expected to get it done. Had a good supervisor who tried to fight for us but even she couldn't budge HR. She finally quit and so did I a month later. Don't work here. I also was the delegate for the union. They didn't help either.free food and drinks in team dining roomno advancement. stupid policies.does not care about employees"
